A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the display of "In God We Trust" on municipal and county |
|
|
buildings. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 305, Local Government Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subchapter C to read as follows: |
|
|
SUBCHAPTER C. DISPLAYS ON MUNICIPAL AND COUNTY BUILDINGS |
|
|
Sec. 305.031. DISPLAY OF "IN GOD WE TRUST." The governing |
|
|
body of a municipality and the commissioners court of a county shall |
|
|
display "In God We Trust" in a conspicuous place on each building |
|
|
owned, leased, or used by the municipality or county if the signage |
|
|
bearing "In God We Trust" is donated to the municipality or county. |
|
|
A donor must also pay the cost of any necessary installation fees |
|
|
for the display. The phrase must be displayed on the outside of a |
|
|
building. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The governing body of each municipality and the |
|
|
commissioners court of each county shall comply with Section |
|
|
305.031, Local Government Code, as added by this Act, as soon as |
|
|
practicable after the effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
