A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to references to years in instructional material used in |
|
|
public schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 31, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 31.004 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 31.004. (a) Instructional material selected for use |
|
|
in public schools: |
|
|
(1) shall refer to years as being "BC" or "AD," as |
|
|
appropriate; and |
|
|
(2) shall not refer to years as being "BCE" or "CE." |
|
|
(b) This section does not prohibit the use of instructional |
|
|
material that explains the meaning of "BCE" or "CE." |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to instructional material acquired on or after the effective date |
|
|
of this Act. Instructional material acquired before the effective |
|
|
date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the |
|
|
instructional material was acquired, and the former law is |
|
|
continued in effect for that purpose. |

SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
