A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment clarifying that a qualified |
|
voter in this state must be a United States citizen. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 2(a), Article VI, Texas Constitution, is |
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
(a) Only a [Every] person subject to none of the |
|
disqualifications provided by Section 1 of this article or by a law |
|
enacted under that section who is a citizen of the United States and |
|
who is a resident of this state shall be deemed a qualified voter in |
|
any election held in this state; provided, however, that before |
|
offering to vote at an election a voter shall have registered, but |
|
such requirement for registration shall not be considered a |
|
qualification of a voter within the meaning of the term "qualified |
|
voter" as used in any other Article of this Constitution in respect |
|
to any matter except qualification and eligibility to vote at an |
|
election. |

SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment clarifying that a |
|
qualified voter in this state must be a United States citizen." |
