SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize the YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program in honor |
|
of the group's visit to the State Capitol, where it will hold |
|
its Middle School Youth and Government conference on February |
|
1, 2025, and its High School Youth and Government conference |
|
on February 28 and March 1, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, The YMCA Texas Youth and Government Program was |
|
established in 1946 as a part of the YMCA's nationwide effort to |
|
heighten political awareness among the nation's youth and |
|
instill in them the value of social action; the Texas program has |
|
since taught countless young people the value of democratic |
|
government as well as its practical application in public policy, |
|
and the program has helped to shape responsible and engaged young |
|
citizens and future leaders; and |
|
WHEREAS, The annual YMCA Texas Youth and Government |
|
Program conferences provide a platform for young citizens |
|
throughout the state who want to elevate their voices and engage |
|
in meaningful debate and discussions on matters personal to them |
|
and their communities; this year, more than 1,500 high school |
|
students and nearly 500 middle school students are participating |
|
in the event; and |
|
WHEREAS, Transformative and educational, the YMCA Texas |
|
Youth and Government Program inspires young people to become |
|
responsible citizens who are active in the American democratic |
|
process and who are leaders and engaged members of their |
|
communities; the program and its participants are truly |
|
deserving of recognition for their commitment to upholding |
|
democracy and for their contributions to the bright future of our |
|
state and nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, hereby recognize the members of the YMCA Texas Youth |
|
and Government Program and extend to them best wishes for success |
|
at the 2025 middle school and high school conferences at the |
|
State Capitol; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the program as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
