SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 77
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Paul McCann
 
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew
  to a close with the passing of Paul McCann of Egypt, Texas, on
  February 4, 2025, at the age of 83; and
 
         WHEREAS, The son of Vachel and Addie McCann, Paul McCann
  was born in Egypt, Texas, on February 5, 1941; he grew up with 10
  older siblings, Christine, Serelia, Marian, Angie, Prince,
  Jessie, Cora, Vachel, Rose, and Joyce, and he worked on the
  family farm while attending elementary school and high school;
  after graduation, he continued his education at Prairie View A&M
  University; answering his nation's call to duty, he proudly
  served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. McCann subsequently moved to Houston, where
  he was employed by WKM; in 1969, he joined the Houston Police
  Department Academy, and he went on to enjoy a rewarding career in
  law enforcement, distinguishing himself as a member of HPD's
  central, juvenile, emergency communications, employment
  services, and south central divisions; moreover, he became only
  the seventh African American officer to be promoted to the rank
  of sergeant in the history of HPD; he retired in 1993 and then
  worked as a Harris County investigator for a few years; and
 
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. McCann was a valued
  congregant of Good Hope Baptist Church in Houston, where he
  served as a trustee and on the finance committee; in all his
  endeavors, he enjoyed the love and support of his wife of 61
  years, Patricia; together, they raised three children, Paula,
  Kimberly, and Paul, and they had the pleasure of seeing their
  family grow to include five grandchildren and two
  great-grandchildren; in retirement, Mr. McCann and his wife
  moved back to Egypt, where he treasured time spent with his loved
  ones; and
 
         WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
  community, Paul McCann earned the lasting respect and admiration
  of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Paul McCann and
  extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Patricia McCann; to his children, Paula McCann Harris and
  her husband, Dwayne, Kimberly Patrice McCann, and Paul McCann
  Jr.; to his grandchildren, Madison Serelia Harris, Vachel Joshua
  McCann, Sue Ann McCann, Kennedy Simone Smith, and Carson James
  Smith; to his great-grandchildren, Vachel McCann Jr. and Zaleiah
  McCann; to his sisters,RoseMcCannHallandJoyceMcCann
  Coleman; to his godchildren, Chandra Robertson and Jeremy Chinn;
  and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Paul McCann.
