SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Reverend Dr. John D. Harris on his decades of
  devoted service to Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and to
  the people of Brenham, Washington County, and the Lone Star
  State; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. John Harris' professional career includes
  more than five decades as a college and public school educator,
  counselor, and administrator; after working in numerous Texas
  school districts, colleges, and universities, he returned to his
  hometown of Brenham and has spent 35 years in notable student
  services administration roles at Blinn College, including his
  current role as an academic advisor; and
         WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and passion, Reverend
  Harris answered the call to the gospel ministry in 1990; he
  earned a certificate in ministry from Houston College of Biblical
  Studies and devoted 10 years as pastor of Mercy Seat Baptist
  Church in Washington, Texas; since 2001, he has been a source of
  spiritual guidance and boundless generosity to the Brenham
  community as senior pastor of Mount Rose Missionary Baptist
  Church; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Harris holds leadership positions in a number
  of professional organizations, and he and his treasured wife of
  52 years, Helen, are owners of the Golden Years Home Health
  Agency in Brenham; he is justifiably proud of his legacy as a
  cherished leader in Washington County and as a loving father and
  grandfather to his family; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Harris is revered by many for his ministerial
  service and for the lasting impact he has made on countless young
  people during his career in education, and it is indeed fitting
  that he receive special recognition on the occasion of his 25th
  anniversary at Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby commend Rev. Dr. John D. Harris on his
  dedicated service and his many contributions to the church, the
  congregation, and the community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
