SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Shelly Cantú-Valdez, who died January |
|
12, 2025, at the age of 52; and |
|
WHEREAS, A lifelong Texan, Shelly Cantú was born in Freer |
|
on November 18, 1972, to Arnoldo Cantú and Diana Garza; she |
|
earned her diploma from Freer High School in 1991, and she |
|
pursued higher education at Bee County College and completed a |
|
paralegal degree from Texas A&M International University in |
|
2004; and |
|
WHEREAS, Shelly enjoyed a successful career in public |
|
service that included working as an analyst for Immigration and |
|
Customs Enforcement, and she was passionate about her role as a |
|
paralegal and contributed her expertise and experience as an |
|
esteemed staff member with DeSouza Injury Lawyers; and |
|
WHEREAS, Compassionate and driven by a desire to improve |
|
the lives of vulnerable children, Shelly served on the board of |
|
Court Appointed Special Advocates in Duval County, and she was |
|
committed to helping others and always willing to assist fellow |
|
citizens in need; and |
|
WHEREAS, Shelly shared five rewarding years of marriage |
|
with her devoted husband, Mariano Valdez III, and she was a |
|
loving mother to her four children, Enrique, Alyssa, Daniella, |
|
and Kairee; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity and immeasurable kindness, |
|
Shelly was a beloved member of her community, and she leaves |
|
behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were |
|
privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Shelly Cantú-Valdez; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Shelly Cantú-Valdez. |
