SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 88
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Mark Butler
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Sergeant Mark Allen Butler, who died
  while serving in the line of duty on January 15, 2025, at the age
  of 34; and
         WHEREAS, An esteemed military veteran and law enforcement
  officer, Mark Allen Butler was noted for his courageous spirit
  and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones, his community,
  and his country; and
         WHEREAS, Mark was born on June 25, 1990, in Winchester,
  Virginia; upon completing his bachelor's degree from West
  Virginia University in 2014, he enlisted in the United States
  Army and went on to serve the nation with distinction for six
  years of active duty; and
         WHEREAS, Mark relocated to Texas, and he graduated from the
  Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Police Academy in 2021;
  during his nearly four years of service to the people of Texas,
  Mark worked with the Grimes County Sheriff's Office for a time
  and was employed for more than three and a half years with the
  Navasota Police Department, where he was promoted to patrol
  sergeant and special response team leader; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Sergeant Butler
  devoted his time, energy, and talents to training his beloved
  canines and to provide valuable guidance and expertise to the
  department's SWAT team and new recruits; he managed the complex
  responsibilitiesofalawenforcementprofessionalwith
  integrity and valor, and he made the ultimate sacrifice when he
  was killed in the line of duty in a vehicle collision during the
  pursuit of a suspect; and
         WHEREAS, Mark shared a rewarding marriage with his adoring
  wife, Evette, and they were blessed with two children, Elias and
  Ezra, who enriched his life immeasurably; admired and highly
  regarded by his colleagues, respected by members of the community,
  and cherished by friends and loved ones, he leaves behind memories
  that will long be treasured by his family and by all who were
  privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Mark Allen Butler; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Mark Butler.
