R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Lucy J. Cortez of Brownsville on February 6, 2025, at the
  age of 76; and
         WHEREAS, The former Lucy Hinojosa was born in Brownsville on
  July 24, 1948, to Lucio Lopez Hinojosa and Gloria Garcia Lopez, and
  she grew up with the companionship of five siblings, George, Roy,
  Louis, Lisa, and Alfredo; and
         WHEREAS, She obtained a bachelor's degree in 1989 and a
  master's degree in education in 1993; among her academic
  achievements, she was named to the dean's list at The University of
  Texas at Brownsville in 1992; she enjoyed a rewarding career at the
  Texas Department of State Health Services that spanned four decades
  before her retirement as a regional coordinator; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, she benefited from the love
  and support of her husband, Antonio M. Cortez, and she took great
  pride in their three children, Marco, Amy, and Jose; over the years,
  she had the pleasure of welcoming into her family 11 grandchildren
  and 5 great-grandchildren; her many hobbies included collecting
  recipes, and she especially loved sweet treats; a woman of deep
  faith, she enjoyed watching Joel Osteen Ministries and reading the
  Bible; and
         WHEREAS, Although Lucy Cortez will be deeply missed, those
  who held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she
  brought into their lives, and they will forever hold her close in
  their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
  hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lucy J. Cortez and extend
  sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her husband,
  Antonio M. Cortez; to her children, Marco Antonio Cortez and his
  wife, Esmeralda, Amy Cortez, and Jose Antonio Cortez and his wife,
  Aida; to her brothers, George, Roy, and Louis Hinojosa; to her
  grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives
  and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Lucy Cortez.
