SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129
         WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and staff of the Texas Tech
  University Health Sciences Center are convening at the State
  Capitol on February 26, 2025, to celebrate the university's
  legacy of advancing rural health care, education, and research in
  Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, Established in 1969 as Texas Tech University
  School of Medicine, the institution was renamed Texas Tech
  University Health Sciences Center in 1979, and it has become a
  comprehensive health research institution; throughout its
  history, it has been a leader in addressing rural health care
  challenges across the State of Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, TTUHSC remains committed to its foundational
  mission of serving the health care needs of the predominantly
  underserved West Texas region, which encompasses 121 counties
  representing 35 percent of the state's population and 54 percent
  of its land mass; the university continues to expand access to
  care through innovative models that benefit communities across
  Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, This esteemed institution provides top-quality
  academic and clinical education, and it has graduated more than
  42,000 health care professionals, including doctors, nurses,
  pharmacists, researchers, and other key practitioners; the
  institution is composed of six distinguished schools, the School
  of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Health
  Professions, the Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, the Graduate
  School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Julia Jones Matthews
  School of Population and Public Health, with locations in
  Abilene, Amarillo, Dallas, Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa; and
 
         WHEREAS, Nationally recognized for its innovative
  programs, academic achievements, and cutting-edge research,
  TTUHSC also offers a variety of community-based services, many of
  which have become statewide models for addressing the unique
  challenges of rural health care; the university has also
  pioneered the use of telehealth and other technologies to reach
  underserved areas; and
 
         WHEREAS, A cornerstone educational institution in the Lone
  Star State, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center has
  graduated generations of future health care professionals who
  have gone on to make tangible, life-changing impacts on patients
  and drive medical discovery; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby honor the Texas Tech University Health
  Sciences Center for its contributions to rural health care,
  education, and research and extend to all those affiliated with
  the institution sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
  be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for the university as an expression of high regard from
  the Texas Senate.
