SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated, and the Xi Phi |
|
|
Chapter of the organization on the occasion of the 59th |
|
|
Middlesouth Regional Conference Grand Opening, which is taking |
|
|
place on March 27, 2025; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded on October 16, 1932, at Freedmen's |
|
|
Hospital, now known as Howard University Hospital in Washington, |
|
|
D.C., Chi Eta Phi Sorority is an international nonprofit service |
|
|
organization dedicated to the advancement of the nursing |
|
|
profession and public health for both men and women who are |
|
|
registered nurses or nursing students; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, At the time of the organization's founding, Black |
|
|
nurses faced severe employment restrictions and opportunities |
|
|
that were limited to segregated facilities with little to no |
|
|
possibility for professional advancement; in response, Chi Eta |
|
|
Phi Sorority was established to provide professional |
|
|
development, leadership training, and advocacy to increase the |
|
|
availability of opportunities for its members and their |
|
|
communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The organization continues to be a vital force in |
|
|
promoting health equity through its engagement in health fairs, |
|
|
community service projects, educational seminars, workshops, |
|
|
forums, philanthropy, and scholarship awards; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Middlesouth Region is one of Chi Eta Phi |
|
|
Sorority's five geographic regions across the United States, and |
|
|
its members remain steadfast in upholding the core values of the |
|
|
organization by fostering professional excellence and community |
|
|
service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of Chi Eta Phi Sorority have |
|
|
demonstrated an unwavering dedication to public health and the |
|
|
provision of high-quality care in the field of nursing, and their |
|
|
efforts have created a positive impact for countless individuals |
|
|
and communities; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize the Xi Phi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi |
|
|
Sorority, Incorporated, on the occasion of the 59th Middlesouth |
|
|
Regional Conference Grand Opening and commend the members of the |
|
|
organization on their outstanding contributions to their |
|
|
communities and to the nursing profession; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special occasion. |
