SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 153
         WHEREAS, For seven decades, the Women's Symphony League of
  Tyler has contributed immeasurably to the arts community in East
  Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Women's Symphony League of Tyler was founded
  in 1955 by Lillie Belle Etter, Imogene Fair, Cris Selman, Zoe
  Talbert, and Gertrude Windsor to promote the growth and
  development of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra; the five women
  organized the charter membership of the league, which since its
  inception has raised millions of dollars to support ETSO and
  music education in the region; symphony league volunteers offer
  assistance at each orchestra performance, and volunteers also
  help provide meals and housing for musicians visiting Tyler; and
 
         WHEREAS, Benefiting from the current leadership of
  president Holly Long Burke, the Women's Symphony League today
  counts more than 500 active members; among its initiatives, the
  group oversees the Junior Symphony League and awards
  scholarships to high school and middle school students
  participating in music programs and to individuals who are
  majoring in music at a college or university; and
 
         WHEREAS, Over the past 70 years, the Women's Symphony
  League of Tyler has played an important role in educating and
  uniting people through the power of music, and its members, both
  past and present, may indeed take great pride in the cultural
  impact they have made across the East Texas region; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby commend the Women's Symphony League of Tyler
  for its longtime contributions to music education and the East
  Texas Symphony Orchestra and extend to all those associated with
  the organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
 
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for the league as an expression of high regard from the
  Texas Senate.
