R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of admired physician Jan Hansen Garrett of Tyler on
  July 16, 2024, at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Dr. James Marion Garrett and Annabelle
  Hansen Garrett, Jan Garrett was born in Temple on June 14, 1941; he
  graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and Baylor
  University College of Medicine; after serving as a general medical
  officer in the U.S. Navy, he completed his orthopedic residency at
  the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center; he established
  the Bone and Joint Clinic in Tyler, and in 1992, he became founding
  president of the Azalea Orthopedics clinic; he was adored by his
  patients, staff, and colleagues and received many honors, including
  induction into the Bethesda Health Clinic Doctor Luke Society in
  2019; over the years, he held positions at the UT Tyler Health
  Science Center and several other hospitals, and he was a founding
  member of the Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital and
  president of Ambulatory Surgical Center of Tyler; for more than two
  decades, he served on the board of Physicians Contracting
  Organization of Texas; he retired in 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Garrett married the love of his life, the former
  Madonna Sue Jones, on August 21, 1965, and they were blessed with
  two daughters, Jennifer and Laura; eventually, he knew the joy of
  becoming the proud grandfather of Patrick and Annabelle; he and Sue
  Garrett shared a fulfilling relationship until her death in 2017;
  fortunate enough to find love a second time, he married Elen
  Moncrieff on December 29, 2018; his many interests included wine,
  classical music, travel, golf, reading, and collecting and sharing
  first edition books; and
         WHEREAS, Although Jan Garrett is deeply missed, his strong
  faith, great kindness, and immense devotion to his family will
  remain a source of inspiration to all who were privileged to know
  him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Jan Hansen Garrett and extend
  sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Elen
  Garrett; to his daughters, Jennifer Deen and her husband, Patrick,
  and Laura Jones and her husband, Matt; to his grandchildren,
  Patrick Deen Jr. and Annabelle Gardner; to his siblings, Mary Joyce
  and Chris, Steve, and Mike Garrett; and to his many other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Jan Garrett.
