R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Guy Newell Harrison of Longview on August 4, 2024, at the
  age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Guy and Margaret Harrison, Guy Harrison
  was born in Longview on December 14, 1946, and he grew up with the
  companionship of a brother, Kim, and twin sister, Gay; after
  graduating from Southern Methodist University, he joined the U.S.
  Army and served in the First Cavalry Division in Vietnam; in 1974,
  he earned his juris doctor degree from the Dedman School of Law at
  SMU, where he became a member of Phi Delta Phi and the Order of
  Barristers; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Harrison enjoyed a rewarding career as an
  attorney that spanned more than five decades; a distinguished
  leader in his profession, he served on the board of directors of the
  State Bar of Texas for six years; he was selected by his fellow
  board members to serve as chair for the 1999-2000 term, and he later
  won election as president for the 2002-2003 term; he was also a
  member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association for
  six years, and in 2002, he became an inaugural member of the Texas
  Access to Justice Commission, which he served for three years; in
  addition, he was a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and he
  served on the foundation's board for six years; in 2009, he was
  appointed to the State Bar of Texas Commission for Lawyer
  Discipline, which he chaired for two years; and
         WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Harrison was a member
  of his local YMCA's board of directors, which he also chaired, and
  he served on the national board for YMCA-USA; his other memberships
  on civic boards included those for The Crisman School for children
  with learning disabilities, which he chaired for two years, and the
  Good Shepherd Medical Foundation; moreover, he was a member of the
  Longview First United Methodist Church board of trustees, and he
  was a proud member and teacher of the church's Henry Foster Sunday
  school class; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Harrison benefited from
  the love and support of his wife of 55 years, Lucinda; he was a
  devoted father to his son, Parker, and his children, Worth and Beau,
  who preceded their father in death; over the years, his treasured
  family grew to include two grandchildren, Rainy and Tate, and three
  great-grandchildren, Ivy, Willow, and McKinley Mae; and
         WHEREAS, Although Guy Harrison is deeply missed, memories of
  his integrity and his devotion to his family remain to comfort and
  inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
  hereby pay tribute to the life of Guy Newell Harrison and extend
  heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Guy Harrison.
