R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Gladys Faye Avitts
  Stone of Longview were deeply saddened by her death on July 23,
  2024, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Hazard, Kentucky, the former Gladys
  Avitts was born to Lester and Abby Brown Avitts on July 16, 1939,
  and grew up sharing in the companionship of 11 siblings; she and her
  family moved to Texas when she was 12 years old, and after
  graduating from Friendswood High School in 1958, she attended
  Friends Bible College in Kansas, where she excelled at tennis; and
         WHEREAS, Following college, Mrs. Stone returned to Texas and
  worked as a respiratory therapist at East Texas Chest Hospital in
  Tyler; she was active in her community over the years, serving as a
  Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and as a delegate to a
  number of Republican conventions; moreover, she was a valued member
  of her church and enjoyed singing in the choir; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Stone benefited from the
  love and support of her husband, Glenn, with whom she shared a
  rewarding marriage that spanned 63 years; she was the proud mother
  of two sons, Glenn and Charles, and she was further blessed with
  four grandchildren, Mason, Lauren, Charles, and the late Amanda
  Stone, and six great-grandchildren, Maci, Kayleigh, Myles,
  Spencer, Maverick, and Daisy Faye; during her leisure hours, she
  took pleasure in spending time outdoors and at the lake; and
         WHEREAS, Although Gladys Stone is greatly missed, those who
  held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she
  brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
  hereby pay tribute to the memory of Gladys Faye Avitts Stone and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  husband, Glenn R. Stone Sr.; to her sons, Glenn Stone Jr. and his
  wife, Mary Kay, and Charles Stone and his wife, Felesha; to her
  grandchildren, Mason Stone and his wife, Tausha, Lauren Stone
  Watkins and her husband, Levi, and Charles Dalton Stone; to her
  great-grandchildren, Maci, Kayleigh, Myles, and Spencer Stone and
  Maverick and Daisy Faye Stone Watkins; and to her other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Gladys Stone.
