SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 160
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Howard Sears Jr.
 
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew
  to a close with the passing of Brother Howard J. Sears Jr. of
  Texarkana on June 11, 2024, at the age of 90; and
         WHEREAS, A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Howard Sears
  was born to Howard J. Sears Sr. and Mary Clark Sears on July 14,
  1933, and grew up with the companionship of his siblings, Harold
  and Merline; answering his nation's call to duty, he joined the
  United States Air Force in 1951, and he served in the Korean and
  Vietnam Wars; he earned a number of prestigious commendations
  during his 21 years in the armed forces, and he retired at the
  rank of technical sergeant; and
         WHEREAS, After concluding his military service, Mr. Sears
  made his home in Texarkana and worked at the Red River Army Depot
  for two decades before his retirement in 1992; he joined St. Paul
  Missionary Baptist Church and was called to the ministry, serving
  the congregation as a pastor and deacon; active in the Masons, he
  was a member of Sunset Lodge No. 144, holding the title of
  worshipful master and mentoring new members; and
         WHEREAS, A caring husband and father, Brother Sears shared
  a rewarding marriage with his first wife, Lucille, who passed
  away in 1969; fortunate enough to find love again, he benefited
  from the support of his wife Bernice until her passing in 2012; he
  took great pride in his four children, Gary, Lisa, William, and
  Gerald, and in his stepdaughter, Willie Faye Anderson, who
  preceded him in death; and
         WHEREAS, Although Howard Sears is deeply missed, this
  beloved man has left his family and friends with many cherished
  memories, and he will forever hold a special place in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Brother Howard J.
  Sears Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
  family: to his children, Gary Sears and his wife, Barbara, Lisa
  Muenich, William Singleton and his wife, Shuanita, and Gerald
  Singleton; to his brother, Harold Sears; and to his other
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Howard Sears.
