SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 179
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Joe D. Cave of Bastrop is |
|
|
retiring as deputy commanding general of the Texas State Guard in |
|
|
March 2025, drawing to a close an exceptional 44-year career in |
|
|
the service of his state and nation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Amarillo, Joe Cave entered Navy |
|
|
Officer Candidate School following his graduation from West |
|
|
Texas State University; he was commissioned as an ensign in 1981, |
|
|
and he spent 16 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring at the rank of |
|
|
commander and then moving into education as the senior naval |
|
|
science instructor for the Junior Reserve Officers Training |
|
|
Corps; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 2007, Brigadier General Cave joined the Texas |
|
|
State Guard as a commander in the Texas Maritime Regiment; he |
|
|
subsequently earned promotions to captain, rear admiral, and |
|
|
brigadier general and was the leader of the 6th Brigade until |
|
|
assuming the role of deputy commanding general in 2023; |
|
|
currently, he is also involved in maintaining security along the |
|
|
Texas-Mexico border as the officer in charge of Operation Border |
|
|
Star and Operation Drawbridge within the Texas Military |
|
|
Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety; over the |
|
|
years, he has served in operational command staff positions both |
|
|
ashore and aboard ships, and his State of Texas awards include |
|
|
three Texas Outstanding Service Medals, the Texas Medal of Merit, |
|
|
the Adjutant General's Individual Award, and the Commanding |
|
|
General's Individual Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Cave holds a master's degree in |
|
|
education administration from the University of Phoenix, and he |
|
|
graduated from the Surface Warfare Division Officer and Officer |
|
|
Department Head Schools and the Army Command and General Staff |
|
|
College; additionally, he completed the TXSG senior leadership |
|
|
course; he and his wife, Susan, are the proud parents of five |
|
|
children, Dilan, Cutler, James, Mia, and Stasha; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joe Cave's leadership and commitment to |
|
|
excellence have greatly benefited his fellow Texans, and he may |
|
|
indeed take pride in his outstanding record of service as he |
|
|
embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Brigadier General Joe D. Cave |
|
|
on his retirement as deputy commanding general of the Texas State |
|
|
Guard and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Brigadier General Cave as an expression of high |
|
|
regard from the Texas Senate. |
