SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 190
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Alamo are gathering in Austin
  on March 5, 2025, to celebrate City of Alamo Day at the State
  Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Located in Hidalgo County and the Rio Grande
  Valley region, Alamo was incorporated in 1924, and it was named
  after the Spanish term for the cottonwood tree; the town's
  population has grown steadily through the years, reaching more
  than 14,000 by the end of the 20th century; and
 
         WHEREAS, Today, the city of Alamo is home to over 20,000
  people, and its economy benefits from the health care,
  educational services, retail, and distribution industries; in
  addition, its award-winning Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent
  School District is a nationwide leader in creating academic
  opportunities for students; and
 
         WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the
  area's natural beauty at the 2,088-acre Santa Ana National
  Wildlife Refuge, which boasts more than 400 species of birds,
  450 types of plants, and half of all butterfly species found in
  North America; and
 
         WHEREAS, Home to an engaged citizenry and a dynamic city
  government, the city of Alamo is building on its proud heritage
  to create a vibrant and prosperous future; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as City of Alamo
  Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the
  visiting delegation.
