SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Citizens from the Town of Pecos City and Reeves
  County are traveling to Austin for Town of Pecos City and Reeves
  County Day at the State Capitol on March 5, 2025; and
         WHEREAS, Situated in the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas,
  the area that encompasses Reeves County was first inhabited in
  prehistoric times and later by the Jumano and Mescalero Apache
  peoples as well as farmers of Mexican descent; Anglo settlers
  were drawn to the region's farming and ranching opportunities in
  the 1870s, and the arrival of the Texas and Pacific Railway in
  1881 contributed to the area's growth and development; after
  separating from Pecos County, Reeves County was founded in 1884,
  and by the end of the century, its population numbered more than
  1,200; its county seat, Pecos, was first established as a camp
  for cattle drives traveling up the Pecos River before becoming
  the site of a rail station; and
         WHEREAS, Today, nearly 12,000 people call Reeves County
  home, with almost 10,000 of those residents living in Pecos; the
  region's economy benefits from the ranching, agricultural,
  construction, and retail industries, and its location in the
  Permian Basin makes it a prime center for oil and gas production;
  in the spirit of collaboration, the city and county have formed
  an advisory committee that supports workforce and economic
  development, infrastructure, and special projects in the region;
  and
         WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the
  world's largest spring-fed swimming pool at Balmorhea State Park
  and immerse themselves in West Texas history at the West of the
  Pecos Museum; the area is also known for the West of the Pecos
  Rodeo, which has operated since 1883 and is one of the world's
  first rodeos; and
         WHEREAS, The hardworking and forward-looking citizens of
  Pecos and Reeves County are building on a long tradition of
  excellence, and their history and achievements are indeed
  deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
  hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as Town of Pecos City and Reeves
  County Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
  delegation sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable
  stay in Austin.
