WHEREAS, The University of Houston-Clear Lake celebrated

students and 60 faculty members had begun classes at an off-site
location while waiting for construction to be completed; in the
ensuing decades, UHCL experienced significant growth; initially
a graduate and upper-division branch of UH, the Clear Lake campus
welcomed its first freshman and sophomore students in 2014, and
it has recently added a number of new facilities, including the
STEM and Classroom Building, the Recreation and Wellness Center,
and the Hunter Residence Hall; in 2010, the UHCL at Pearland
campus was established, and in 2019, its nearly
70,000-square-foot Health Sciences and Classroom Building was
  opened; and
WHEREAS, Today, UHCL serves a diverse population of more
than 7,700 students and offers over 90 undergraduate and graduate
degree programs across its 4 colleges, as well as 3 doctoral
programs in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction,
and health service psychology; the university is home to many
specialized institutes and centers that reflect its commitment
to community service, such as the Environmental Institute of
Houston, the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities,
and the Center for Educational Programs, and it has become an
arts and entertainment destination, hosting a variety of
exhibitions in the Art Gallery and multi-genre performances in
the Bayou Theater; among its many achievements, UHCL has been
cited five times on the President's Higher Education Community
Service Honor Roll, and it has been designated as a
  Hispanic-Serving Institution; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding more than 50 years ago, the
University of Houston-Clear Lake has provided generations of
Texans with a strong foundation for achievement, and in so doing,
it has contributed significantly to the prosperity and vitality
of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
