SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the residents of Sullivan City who are gathering in |
|
|
Austin on March 6, 2025, to celebrate Sullivan City Day at the |
|
|
State Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1908, Sullivan City is located along |
|
|
the Rio Grande in southwestern of Hidalgo County; the city was |
|
|
named in honor of Captain Ed Sullivan, who owned a ranch in the |
|
|
area that later became a loading station on the Missouri Pacific |
|
|
Railroad; at the end of the 20th century, the town's population |
|
|
was around 2,300; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Sullivan City is home to nearly 4,000 |
|
|
residents, and its economy benefits from educational, health |
|
|
care, and retail services; neighboring communities include |
|
|
Harlingen, McAllen, and Reynosa, Mexico, and residents and |
|
|
visitors alike enjoy such nearby attractions as the National |
|
|
Butterfly Center, the McAllen Heritage Center, and the Fordyce |
|
|
Nature Trails; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The community is ably led by its city council, |
|
|
which includes mayor Alma Dalia Salinas, mayor pro tem Ramon |
|
|
Moreno, and members Rene Peña, Nicholas Cerda, and Ruben |
|
|
Villalon, as well as city manager Richard Ozuna; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Sullivan City are working to |
|
|
preserve the best of their past while building a future of |
|
|
expanding opportunity, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for |
|
|
their unique contributions to the Lone Star State; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Sullivan City Day |
|
|
at the Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
|
|
delegation; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
