SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Charles Edward Barton, who died February
  20, 2025, at the age of 84; and
         WHEREAS, On August 19, 1940, Charles was born as the 12th
  of 15 children to Robert and Sadie Barton in Eureka; he grew up
  sharing a close bond with his family and attended Griffin Chapel
  Church of God in Christ, and the family often spent time together
  working on agricultural and construction projects in Navarro
  County; and
         WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Charles moved
  to Dallas and began a career in the produce industry with
  Harrison Produce at the Dallas Farmers Market; a motivated
  entrepreneur, he went on to co-own a gas station and a building
  materials and hauling company and eventually returned to the
  business of agriculture; he served as a buyer and manager for
  various produce and nursery businesses, and he remained active in
  retirement by selling his popular watermelons and sweet potatoes
  to members of his local community; and
         WHEREAS, Charles married the love of his life, Patricia
  Butcher, on June 5, 1962, and during more than six decades
  together, they built a rewarding marriage that offered a sense of
  joy and belonging to all who were a part of their lives; he was a
  proud father to his daughters, La Juana and Robin, who were each a
  source of pride and joy to him and enriched his life
  immeasurably; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Charles volunteered with
  many community organizations and actively supported his
  daughters' schools and personal pursuits, and he cherished time
  spent together with his many relatives and caring for his sisters
  and all of the beloved women in his family; and
         WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
  Charles gave unselfishly to others, and his dependability,
  humor, and enthusiasm for life will be treasured forever by his
  family and by all who were privileged to know him and to share in
  his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Charles Edward Barton; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Charles Barton.
