SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the members of the Limón family for their many |
|
|
contributions to the Austin community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, José Limón migrated from Mexico in 1889 and |
|
|
settled in Central Texas with his wife Bernavé to raise their 11 |
|
|
children; since then, the family has grown to around 5,000 |
|
|
members, and their influence is evident in many of the economic, |
|
|
social, and political matters occurring in the Austin area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Noted for their entrepreneurial expertise and |
|
|
community activism to improve the lives of their neighbors, the |
|
|
voices and livelihoods of Limón family members have helped to |
|
|
create opportunities for countless Austinites to thrive; they |
|
|
have played an integral role in the area for 135 years, and many |
|
|
relatives still live in East Austin on or nearby their namesake |
|
|
street, Calle Limón; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year, hundreds of Limónes gather for a |
|
|
family reunion to celebrate their rich history and to honor their |
|
|
motto, "Siempre Unidos", which has strengthened their family's |
|
|
bond for more than six generations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Exemplary citizens who hold in high regard the |
|
|
traditional values and family heritage they share, the members of |
|
|
the Limón family have contributed greatly to Austin and to the |
|
|
Lone Star State through their leadership, their civic |
|
|
engagement, and their spirit of resilience, and it is truly |
|
|
fitting that the family receive special recognization for all |
|
|
they have done to benefit their community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Limón family for |
|
|
their indominable spirit and the prominent role they have played |
|
|
in Austin and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the family as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
