SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 273
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS celebrated |
|
|
its Visibility Month in February 2025; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, AMBUCS is a national nonprofit organization that |
|
|
provides free therapeutic Amtrykes to children and adults, |
|
|
including veterans; these adaptive tricycles can be customized |
|
|
to meet the unique needs of each individual, thereby enhancing |
|
|
their mobility and helping them achieve a higher degree of |
|
|
independence; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS was |
|
|
created in 1960 by a group of dedicated men and women who gathered |
|
|
at the Cactus Inn with the hopes of assisting their community |
|
|
through acts of service; over the years, the chapter has expanded |
|
|
to provide additional care to those in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On average, Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS gives away 30 |
|
|
therapeutic tricycles each fiscal year; the organization also |
|
|
provides tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to therapy |
|
|
students in the School of Health Professions at Texas Tech |
|
|
University Health Sciences Center to help further the education |
|
|
of those who seek to assist individuals with disabilities; in |
|
|
2024, the chapter donated more than 50 tricycles and raised over |
|
|
$60,000 in scholarships; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the past six and a half decades, Lubbock |
|
|
Monterey AMBUCS has made a meaningful difference in the lives of |
|
|
numerous Texans with mobility needs, and the organization is to |
|
|
be commended for its many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby honor the Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS |
|
|
on the occasion of its Visibility Month and extend to all those |
|
|
affiliated with the organization sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success in their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS as an expression of high |
|
|
regard from the Texas Senate. |
