R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS celebrated |
|
|
its Visibility Month in February 2025; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, AMBUCS is a national nonprofit organization that |
|
|
provides free therapeutic Amtrykes to children and adults, |
|
|
including veterans; these adaptive tricycles can be customized to |
|
|
meet the unique needs of each individual, thereby enhancing their |
|
|
mobility and helping them achieve a higher degree of independence; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS was created |
|
|
in 1960 by a group of dedicated men and women who gathered at the |
|
|
Cactus Inn with the hopes of assisting their community through acts |
|
|
of service; over the years, the chapter has expanded to provide |
|
|
additional care to those in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On average, Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS gives away 30 |
|
|
therapeutic tricycles each fiscal year; the organization also |
|
|
provides tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to therapy |
|
|
students in the School of Health Professions at Texas Tech |
|
|
University Health Sciences Center to help further the education of |
|
|
those who seek to assist individuals with disabilities; in 2024, |
|
|
the chapter donated more than 50 tricycles and raised over $60,000 |
|
|
in scholarships; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the past six and a half decades, Lubbock |
|
|
Monterey AMBUCS has made a meaningful difference in the lives of |
|
|
numerous Texans with mobility needs, and the organization is to be |
|
|
commended for its many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature |
|
|
hereby honor the Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS on the occasion |
|
|
of its Visibility Month and extend to all those affiliated with the |
|
|
organization sincere best wishes for continued success in their |
|
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS as an expression of high |
|
|
regard by the Texas Senate. |
