SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 291
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Rosina Isaura Urteaga Martinez on the grand occasion of |
|
|
her 85th birthday; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Laredo on January 28, 1940, Rosina |
|
|
attended Ursuline Academy, where she met her high school |
|
|
sweetheart, Blas M. Martinez, and earned her diploma in 1958; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Rosina earned a degree in vocational home |
|
|
economics from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, and she and |
|
|
Blas were married on February 14, 1960; they shared nearly 50 |
|
|
years of marriage until the time of his passing, and together |
|
|
they found great joy in rearing a family and through their |
|
|
worldwide travels; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After teaching junior high school for two years, |
|
|
Rosina fully devoted herself to rearing her children and shared |
|
|
with them her love of music, theater, travel, and adventure; over |
|
|
the years, she has generously donated her time as a volunteer |
|
|
with many charitable organizations and clubs and as a member of |
|
|
Parent Teacher Associations at her children's schools; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of deep spiritual faith, Rosina has been |
|
|
an active parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church for more than |
|
|
five decades; she was one of the first women in Laredo to become a |
|
|
Eucharistic minister, and she is especially proud of the prayer |
|
|
workshops and marriage preparation courses she taught with her |
|
|
husband for many years at the church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A beloved matriarch to her seven children and her |
|
|
20 grandchildren, Rosina is renowned for her exceptional skill as |
|
|
a cook and baker, and she is noted for her gracious and generous |
|
|
spirit; she is a treasured member of her community, and her 85th |
|
|
birthday is indeed a fitting occasion for her loved ones to join |
|
|
in celebration and to express their admiration and affection for |
|
|
her; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend happy birthday wishes to Rosina |
|
|
Urteaga Martinez on her 85th birthday and that a copy of this |
|
|
Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion. |
