SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Calhoun County in celebrating March 20,
  2025, as Calhoun County Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Calhoun County is named for John C. Calhoun, a
  politician from South Carolina who was an advocate for Texas'
  statehood, and the county was formed in 1846 from portions of
  Victoria, Jackson, and Matagorda Counties; and
         WHEREAS, Port Lavaca has served as the county seat since
  1887, and such other notable communities as Point Comfort,
  Seadrift, and Port O'Connor contribute to the natural beauty and
  economic prosperity of the area; the county also benefits from
  the dedicated leadership of its elected officials, including
  county judge Vern Lyssy and county commissioners David Hall,
  Ronald Best, Joel M. Behrens, and Gary Reese; and
         WHEREAS, Located along the Gulf Coast between Houston and
  Corpus Christi, Calhoun County is a popular destination for
  fishing and other outdoor recreational opportunities; the
  county's extensive coastal prairies and marshes provide
  excellent habitat for birds and wildlife and offer ample
  opportunity for birders and photographers to experience the
  eight Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail sites and the more than
  400 species of birds in the region; and
         WHEREAS, Local residents and visitors alike enjoy many
  popular annual events in the area, including the Calhoun County
  Fair, Iguana Fest, and the Bayfront Beats summer concert series;
  and
         WHEREAS, The residents of Calhoun County may take
  justifiable pride in the important role their unique region plays
  in the success of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting
  that these esteemed Texans celebrate their county's rich history
  as they look ahead to a bright future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby commend the people of Calhoun County for
  their many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our
  state and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Calhoun
  County Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the county as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
