SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 309
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Fred Cantú, a treasured news reporter who is retiring
  from CBS/Telemundo Austin on March 31, 2025, after working for
  more than 50 years in radio and television journalism; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Brownsville, Fred Cantú developed a
  passion for broadcasting from a young age, and he began pursuing
  his vocation at a local radio station at the age of 17; he earned a
  degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in
  1990, and soon after, he secured a position in the television
  industry as a tape editor for the Austin ABC news affiliate, KVUE,
  before he was hired as a feature reporter for Fox in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, In the previous 45 years, Fred has served as a
  news anchor, reporter, and producer for several major news
  affiliates, and he earned a reputation as "the most affable and
  unassuming news anchor in the River City" during his tenure on
  KVUE's "Daybreak" morning broadcast from 1995 to 2001; he moved
  to the CBS affiliate KEYE in 2002 as the first male anchor at
  Telemundo Austin, and he is retiring from CBS Austin News after
  more than two decades with the station; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed television personality shaped his
  exemplary career through an uncompromising work ethic and by
  upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity; his
  colleagues admire him as an insightful local historian and a
  measured, calming presence in the newsroom; and
         WHEREAS, Widely known and referred to as "Uncle Fred", Fred
  Cantú is a beloved Austin public figure who has helped inform
  Central Texans on events that shape their awareness and
  understanding of their communities and the world, and his
  presence on the Austin airwaves will be greatly missed; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby recognize Fred Cantú for his exemplary
  career in broadcasting and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
