SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 317
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Trinity Episcopal Church in Pharr on the grand occasion
  of its 100th anniversary; and
 
         WHEREAS, Trinity Episcopal Church was established in 1925
  and held its first worship service at the Pharr City Hall under
  the direction of Rev. R. O. MacIntosh; the church building was
  constructed in 1927, and that same year, Rev. Samuel Capers
  assumed leadership of the parish; and
 
         WHEREAS, The church's longest serving rector, W. W.
  Stewart, began guiding the church in March of 1939; during his
  four decades of service, the church constructed a children's
  chapel, and Gothic-style stained glass windows were installed in
  the sanctuary and are still displayed and treasured today; and
 
         WHEREAS, Trinity Episcopal Church has undertaken many
  worthy projects that have benefited the community, including
  creating the Pharr Emergency Food Pantry in 1978, which inspired
  the establishment of the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley; and
 
         WHEREAS, Over the past century, Trinity Episcopal Church
  has been a spiritual refuge for innumerable Christians, and it
  upholds its enduring mission of service through the leadership of
  Rev. Canon Sharon Alexander, the church's first woman rector; it
  is truly fitting that the church receive special recognition on
  reaching this remarkable milestone in its history; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and
  congregants of Trinity Episcopal Church on the joyous occasion of
  its 100th anniversary; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
