SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 375
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The celebration of Jack and Jill of America Day at |
|
|
the State Capitol on April 7, 2025, offers a welcome opportunity |
|
|
to honor the organization's South Central Region; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America was founded in 1938 in an |
|
|
effort to cultivate future generations of African American |
|
|
leaders by providing youth between the ages of 2 and 19 with |
|
|
opportunities related to leadership development, volunteer |
|
|
service, philanthropic giving, and civic duty; the organization |
|
|
is composed of mothers and their children, and its programming |
|
|
includes service projects, lobbying, educational development, |
|
|
and the coordination of community and charitable events; today, |
|
|
it works with more than 50,000 family members in 271 chapters |
|
|
nationwide; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Houston and New Orleans, Louisiana, chapters |
|
|
of Jack and Jill of America were chartered in 1952; the groups |
|
|
came together five years later to form the organization's South |
|
|
Central Region, which currently encompasses 38 chapters across |
|
|
Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana; the region serves 2,116 mothers |
|
|
and 1,827 fathers, as well as 1,360 associates and life members, |
|
|
and its programs are attended by 1,996 children and 2,011 |
|
|
teenagers; and |

|
|
WHEREAS, The South Central Region of Jack and Jill of |
|
|
America has helped shape generations of leaders in the Lone Star |
|
|
State and beyond, and the organization's invaluable |
|
|
contributions are indeed worthy of recognition on this special |
|
|
occasion; now, therefore, be it |
| |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize April 7, 2025, as Jack and Jill of |
|
|
America Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those |
|
|
affiliated with the organization's South Central Region sincere |
|
|
best wishes for continued success. |
