R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Friends of the Dallas Public Library is marking the |
|
|
75th anniversary of its founding in 2025, and this occasion |
|
|
provides a welcome opportunity to recognize the organization's |
|
|
outstanding record of service to the residents of Dallas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1950, this venerable nonprofit |
|
|
organization helps support the Dallas Public Library's 30 locations |
|
|
and nearly 400 employees; by launching grassroots campaigns and |
|
|
securing grants, the group has raised funds that have allowed the |
|
|
library to expand hours, increase staffing, install Reading Ready |
|
|
Play Spaces at all branches, and finance staff development, early |
|
|
childhood literacy, child and adult education programs, and |
|
|
multicultural family programming; moreover, the organization |
|
|
played a vital role in passing a 2017 bond that funded the |
|
|
construction of a new library, the replacement of another, and a |
|
|
range of improvements at the central branch; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For three quarters of a century, Friends of the |
|
|
Dallas Public Library has advocated for the library and supported |
|
|
its mission to strengthen the community and build equity by |
|
|
connecting people, inspiring curiosity, and advancing lives, and it |
|
|
is a privilege to honor the organization on this important |
|
|
milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature |
|
|
hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of Friends of the Dallas |
|
|
Public Library and extend to all those associated with the group |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success with their important |
|
|
work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
