SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize members of the Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute as |
|
|
they gather at the State Capitol in Austin on April 8, 2025; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 2020, the Barbara Jordan Leadership |
|
|
Institute is a nonpartisan organization that works to strengthen |
|
|
the current generation of Black leaders while preparing and |
|
|
uplifting the next; led by Black women who are driven by their |
|
|
lived experiences and committed to community-based leadership in |
|
|
action, the institute offers training, mentorship, and support |
|
|
to Black communities throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, |
|
|
East Texas, and the Greater Houston area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The institute seeks to broaden representation in |
|
|
leadership and demonstrates the power of collective action |
|
|
through voter education, advocacy, and leadership development; |
|
|
the Fellowship Program is a key initiative of the institute and |
|
|
is designed to involve college students and community members in |
|
|
the electoral process through voter registration and civic |
|
|
engagement initiatives at institutions including Jarvis |
|
|
Christian University, Lamar University, Prairie View A&M |
|
|
University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas Southern |
|
|
University, and Thurgood Marshall School of Law; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute is |
|
|
dedicated to shaping a future in which diverse leadership fosters |
|
|
fair, safe, and prosperous communities, and this special day |
|
|
serves as a fitting opportunity to amplify the voices of those |
|
|
historically underrepresented in policymaking and to promote |
|
|
civic participation, advocacy, and leadership development among |
|
|
our state's emerging Black leaders; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the Barbara Jordan Leadership |
|
|
Institute on its vital contributions to democracy in Texas and |
|
|
extend to all best wishes for a memorable and rewarding day at the |
|
|
State Capitol; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special occasion. |
