SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Zilker Elementary School in Austin on the occasion of
  the school's 75th anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Zilker Elementary School opened its doors to
  students in the fall of 1950; it was named in honor of Austin
  businessman and philanthropist, Andrew J. Zilker, who played an
  instrumental role in providing funding to Austin public schools
  and in the establishment of Zilker Metropolitan Park and Barton
  Springs Pool as treasured outdoor spaces for the public to enjoy;
  and
         WHEREAS, The school has greatly expanded in capacity from
  its original 270 students and has broadened its focus through the
  years to include such initiatives as a dual language program,
  environmental education, and an emphasis on the arts and social
  and emotional learning; and
         WHEREAS, Under the exceptional leadership of its
  principal, A. J. Pitts, and with the indispensible support of its
  exemplary educators, support staff, and community members,
  Zilker Elementary School has continued its mission to nurture
  problem-solving, creative, and resilient young people and to
  empower and equip them to make a positive difference in the
  world; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, faculty, and
  staff of Zilker Elementary School on their commitment to
  excellence in education and extend to all best wishes for a
  memorable 75th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
