SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Bill Matthys, who was recently honored with a Larry
  Carter Award by the Cuero Chamber of Commerce for his many
  outstanding contributions to the Cuero community; and
         WHEREAS, The Larry Carter Award is bestowed by the Cuero
  Chamber of Commerce to recognize exceptional individuals in the
  community who exemplify the highest ideals of civic engagement
  and who go beyond the call of duty in serving the citizens of
  Cuero; and
         WHEREAS, Bill Matthys is an esteemed Texan who holds a
  journalism degree and a master's degree in language curriculum
  from the University of Houston; he served with distinction as an
  officer in the United States Army and the United States Army
  Reserve, and he concluded his military career having attained the
  rank of captain after 11 years of loyal service to his country;
  and
         WHEREAS, Bill Matthys has served his community as an
  educator, and his career as a teacher and administrator in Texas
  public schools spanned more than three decades; he earned the
  respect of colleagues and community members during his 16 years
  of service with the Cuero Independent School District, and after
  retiring from the district, he went on to become a certified
  legal assistant and joined the staff of Dietze and Reese Law Firm
  in Cuero, where he served as a paralegal for seven years; and
         WHEREAS, Beyond his professional contributions to Cuero,
  Bill has helped to enhance the community's quality of life
  through his work in numerous civic leadership capacities; he has
  served on the boards of the DeWitt County Habitat for Humanity
  and the Cuero Independent School District Education Foundation,
  and he has served as a member and a past president of the Cuero
  Lions Club and the Cuero Chamber of Commerce; in addition, he has
  dedicated 17 years to the Cuero City Council as a member at large,
  including 14 years of leadership guiding the city as mayor pro
  tempore; and
         WHEREAS, Bill Matthys is a distinguished veteran, a
  devoted husband and father, and a faithful member of the Lutheran
  Church Missouri Synod; he has long been committed to enriching
  his community and to serving the greater good, and it is truly
  fitting that he receive special recognition for his many
  contributions to the Cuero community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby congratulate Bill Matthys on receiving the
  2025 Larry Carter Award and extend to him best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
