R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Richard D. Pineda is retiring from The |
|
University of Texas at El Paso in 2025, following a noteworthy |
|
career with the institution spanning more than two decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, The chair of and an associate professor in the UTEP |
|
Department of Communication, Dr. Pineda also serves as director of |
|
the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies; he focuses his |
|
teaching and research on the areas of politics, leadership, media, |
|
popular culture, and Latino studies; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Pineda's work has been published in a number of |
|
communication journals, among them Text and Performance Quarterly |
|
and The Free Speech Yearbook, and he has served on the editorial |
|
boards of Argumentation and Advocacy and Contemporary |
|
Argumentation and Debate, two preeminent American journals in his |
|
field; in addition, he has further shared his insights and |
|
expertise in countless media interviews, shedding light on many |
|
issues that impact the borderland region; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the university, Dr. Pineda has served |
|
as a member of the Director's Circle for the Stanlee and Gerald |
|
Rubin Center for the Visual Arts; he has also benefited the wider |
|
community as a member of the City of El Paso Ethics Review |
|
Commission and Capital Improvements Advisory Committee; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Pineda holds a bachelor's degree in political |
|
science from Baylor University, a master's degree in communication |
|
from UTEP, and a doctoral degree from Wayne State University; |
|
raised in El Paso, he is a proud graduate of Eastwood High School; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his contributions as a scholar and educator, |
|
Richard Pineda has earned the respect and admiration of his |
|
colleagues and students alike, and he may indeed reflect with pride |
|
on his achievements as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of |
|
his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby congratulate Dr. Richard D. Pineda on his retirement from |
|
The University of Texas at El Paso and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Pineda as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
Senate. |
