SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 466

In Memory

of

Robert Wieners

WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed public servant drew to a close with the passing of former Friendswood Police Chief Robert Barrett Wieners on August 24, 2024, at the age of 71; and

WHEREAS, Bob Wieners was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 14, 1953; after graduating from Boston College High School, he served as a U.S. Army military police officer from 1972 to 1975; he completed a degree at Boston State College in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Returning to the military, Mr. Wieners was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps; he served for more than 20 years, distinguishing himself on deployments overseas and by training reservists and providing security support at the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, D.C.; in 1992, he earned a master's degree in national security and strategic studies from the College of Naval Command and Staff; he then served as the inspector-instructor for the 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division in Houston; he was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy Commendation Medal with a gold star, and National Defense Service Medal, and he retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wieners subsequently embarked on a career with the Friendswood Police Department, and he worked as a patrol officer, executive assistant, and tactical team leader before becoming police chief in 2001; he spent more than two decades in that role, ably guiding the force through a period of significant growth for the city prior to his retirement in 2023; and

WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Wieners enjoyed the love and support of his wife of 45 years, Susan, and of his two children, Robert and Marion, and his two grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, A man of great courage and integrity, Bob Wieners leaves behind a legacy of service that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Barrett Wieners and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Susan Wieners; to his son, Robert Wieners Jr., and his wife, Elida Guajardo; to his daughter, Marion Wieners; to his grandchildren, Camila and Michael; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob Wieners.
