SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi on the occasion |
|
|
of the institution's 78th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in April of 1947 as the University of |
|
|
Corpus Christi, this island campus was built on a naval training |
|
|
field used during World War II, and its first class comprised 312 |
|
|
students and 26 faculty members; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi is a |
|
|
vibrant research institution recognized for its rigorous |
|
|
programs and skilled faculty; the university is the academic home |
|
|
of more than 10,000 students who are preparing for the future in |
|
|
their choice of 85 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral |
|
|
programs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi is one of |
|
|
135 institutions listed as an R2-High Research Activity campus by |
|
|
the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education; the university is |
|
|
continuing a proud and historic legacy of teaching excellence and |
|
|
community engagement, and its 78th anniversary is truly cause for |
|
|
celebration; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize Texas A&M University--Corpus |
|
|
Christi as a model institution for excellence in higher education |
|
|
and extend to its leaders, faculty, and staff congratulations on |
|
|
78 years of success and best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the university as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
