SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi on the occasion
  of the institution's 78th anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in April of 1947 as the University of
  Corpus Christi, this island campus was built on a naval training
  field used during World War II, and its first class comprised 312
  students and 26 faculty members; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi is a
  vibrant research institution recognized for its rigorous
  programs and skilled faculty; the university is the academic home
  of more than 10,000 students who are preparing for the future in
  their choice of 85 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral
  programs; and
         WHEREAS, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi is one of
  135 institutions listed as an R2-High Research Activity campus by
  the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education; the university is
  continuing a proud and historic legacy of teaching excellence and
  community engagement, and its 78th anniversary is truly cause for
  celebration; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby recognize Texas A&M University--Corpus
  Christi as a model institution for excellence in higher education
  and extend to its leaders, faculty, and staff congratulations on
  78 years of success and best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the university as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
