SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 503
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Lydia Estela Oliveira Canales
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Lydia Estela Oliveira Canales, who died
  April 7, 2025, at the age of 96; and
         WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Benavides, Lydia was born
  on February 19, 1929, as the second of seven children born to
  Crescencio and Velia Oliveira; and
         WHEREAS, Lydia shared 54 years of marriage with F. H.
  "Tocho" Canales Sr., her beloved late husband, and they were
  blessed with three children, Lille Annell Canales, F. H. Canales
  Jr., and Juan Antonio Canales, and their dear family friend, Mary
  Alice Palomino, who were each a source of great pride and joy in
  their lives; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Lydia was well known and
  respected in her community for her dedication to many local
  organizations and for her amiability toward everyone; she was
  involved with the Parent Teacher Association and school board for
  her children's schools for many years, and her public service
  included serving as a county election judge and 25 years as chair
  of the Duval County Historical Commission; and
         WHEREAS, Above all, Lydia cherished sharing quality time
  with her loved ones, and she found great fulfillment in cooking,
  creating arts and crafts, and planning celebrations for her
  family; she treasured holiday festivities, camping trips, and
  any time spent together with her children, siblings, cousins, and
  many other special relatives, and her three grandchildren
  enriched her life immeasurably; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of warmth, generosity, and strength,
  Lydia gave unselfishly to others, and she leaves behind memories
  that will be treasured forever by her loving family and by all who
  were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Lydia Estela Oliveira Canales; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Lydia Canales.
