SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize the Randle High School football team in Richmond on |
|
winning the 2024 University Interscholastic League 5A Division 2 |
|
State Championship; and |
|
WHEREAS, With their upset victory over South Oak Cliff |
|
High School at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on December 20, 2024, |
|
the Lions claimed the school's first state title and brought |
|
their record to a perfect 16-0 for the year; throughout the |
|
regular season, the Randle players bested their opponents with a |
|
potent offense that averaged more than 54 points per game and an |
|
aggressive defense that posted three shutouts; and |
|
WHEREAS, The team began its postseason march with a |
|
dominating 63-7 first-round triumph over Belton; the Lions |
|
followed with impressive wins over Elgin, Brenham, and Iowa |
|
Colony High Schools before recording a 42-7 triumph against |
|
Boerne in the semifinals to earn a trip to the state championship |
|
game; and |
|
WHEREAS, Making its first state title appearance since the |
|
school was founded in 2021, Randle entered the contest as a |
|
21-point underdog against South Oak Cliff; the Lions opened the |
|
game with an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and led 24-14 |
|
at halftime; the second half was a thrilling back-and-forth |
|
battle that featured four lead changes; the Lions landed the |
|
decisive blow midway through the final quarter by returning |
|
another kickoff for a touchdown, and the defense held strong down |
|
the final stretch to secure a 38-35 victory; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Randle offense was led by sophomore Landen |
|
Williams-Callis, who rushed for over 100 yards, scored a |
|
touchdown, and was named the offensive most valuable player; |
|
pacing the defense was junior linebacker Ryan Mallory, who |
|
recorded 12 tackles to earn the defensive most valuable player; |
|
ably guided by head coach Brian Randle, each member of the Lions |
|
roster made valuable contributions to the team over the course of |
|
the 2024 campaign; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through countless hours of hard work and an |
|
unwavering commitment to excellence, the Randle Lions realized |
|
their season-long goal of becoming state champions, and their |
|
accomplishment is a source of great pride to their school and to |
|
their many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, hereby commend the Randle High School football team |
|
on being named the 2024 5A Division 2 state champions and extend |
|
sincere best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the team in honor of this occasion. |
