SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the City of Laredo on the occasion of its 270th
  anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, In 1755 Captain Tomás Sánchez de la Barrera
  established a settlement under Spanish rule called Villa de San
  Agustín de Laredo; in the 270 years since Laredo was founded, the
  flags of Spain, France, Mexico, Texas, the Republic of the Rio
  Grande, the Confederate States, and the United States have flown
  over the city; and
         WHEREAS, Today Laredo thrives as a hub of vibrant culture
  and community, serves as an important crossing point on the Rio
  Grande, and is North America's leading international trade port
  and international trading center; with a bright economic future,
  Laredo is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, and
  its residents benefit from the city's exemplary institutions of
  higher education and its prosperous retail, health services, and
  hospitality industries; and
         WHEREAS, To commemorate the city's 270th anniversary, the
  Webb County Heritage Foundation, in collaboration with numerous
  community organizations, held daylong festivities in the city's
  San Agustín Plaza on May 17, 2025; enjoyable activities for
  residents and visitors alike included local markets, historical
  exhibits, live music, delicious dining, and a celebratory piñata
  breaking; and
         WHEREAS, Laredo's 270th anniversary provides the
  opportunity for its proud residents to remember their many
  accomplishments while looking forward to their city's bright
  future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the City of Laredo
  on its 270th anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
  expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
