SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 562
WHEREAS, Builders of Hope in Dallas has significantly |
advanced the availability of stable, affordable housing in the |
city; and |
WHEREAS, The only certified Community Housing Development |
Organization in the city of Dallas and in Dallas County, Builders |
of Hope was founded in 1998 with the goal of revitalizing West |
Dallas; today, its target areas also include Pleasant Grove, South |
Dallas, and southern Dallas; its projects are designed not only to |
provide shelter but also to address systemic economic barriers and |
to promote social mobility through homeownership; and |
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Builders of Hope has |
constructed more than 500 high-quality, affordable homes, adding |
over $60 million in single-family real estate value to the local |
tax base and revitalizing historically underserved neighborhoods |
across Dallas; these efforts have supported the creation of more |
than 1,500 construction jobs and generated an estimated $35 |
million in wealth for low- to moderate-income families; through |
its innovative financing model, the organization helps |
homeowners build equity from the outset, with the average family |
receiving approximately $70,000 in equity at closing; and |
WHEREAS, BOH employs three strategies for community |
enrichment; it aims to revitalize areas with land values that |
have been suppressed due to a lack of public investment, to |
stabilize neighborhoods that are undergoing rapid |
gentrification, and to diversify mixed-income housing in areas |
where affordable options are limited or nonexistent; in 2022, the |
organization ventured into multifamily rental housing to help |
address the growing shortage, and it went on to receive unanimous |
approval for its $7.4 million Trinity West Villas development |
from the Dallas City Council; it completed its West Dallas |
single-family project in 2025, offering 19 affordable homes and |
supporting owners with more than 150 hours of homebuyer education |
and $760,000 of down payment assistance; and |
WHEREAS, Through its investments in housing, Builders of |
Hope is empowering Dallas residents to attain greater security and |
generational wealth, and in so doing, it is helping to make the |
wider community stronger and more vibrant; now, therefore, be it |
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
Legislature, hereby honor Builders of Hope for its contributions |
to affordable housing in Dallas and extend to all those |
associated with the organization sincere best wishes for |
continued success; and, be it further |
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
