SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 594
         WHEREAS, Renowned broadcaster and reporter David Alan
  Smoak has been inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall
  of Fame as a member of the Class of 2025; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Tyler Junior College and
  Stephen F. Austin State University, Mr. Smoak began covering
  Texas high school football as a television reporter in 1981 at
  KTRE-TV in Lufkin; he went on to join KLTV in Tyler, where he also
  worked as a lead sports anchor and analyst at other stations; in
  1988, he earned national acclaim for his feature "Jamie's
  Season," which documented the final days of Jamie Sexson, the
  beloved ball boy of the Marshall High School football team who
  passed away from leukemia; additionally, Mr. Smoak was a longtime
  fixture on the East Texas radio airwaves, hosting the afternoon
  Sports Talk show and joining ESPN-Central Texas in Waco in 2010
  as a program director and host; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Smoak serves as director of
  broadcasting and sales at SicEm365 Radio and 365 Sports on
  YouTube, and he oversees smoaky.com, a website he launched nearly
  a quarter century ago that has been at the forefront of covering
  East and Central Texas high school sports; dedicated to giving
  back, he has further distinguished himself in the community by
  establishing programs that honor student-athletes for academic
  excellence; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Smoak's professional affiliations include
  membership with the Football Writers Association of America and
  the Pro Football Writers of America; moreover, he has a vote for
  the Heisman Trophy and Biletnikoff Award and is on the ballot
  committees for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Texas High
  School Football Hall of Fame; he is a member of the East Texas
  Coaches Association Hall of Honor, and among his many other
  accolades, he has received Associated Press awards for sports
  talk show, play-by-play broadcasting, and television sportscast
  as well as the Tyler Junior College Spirit Award; in all his
  endeavors, he benefits from the love and support of his wife,
  Cindy, and their two children, Craig and Jennifer; and
         WHEREAS, David Smoak has devoted himself to the game of
  football, entertaining and informing countless fans in the Lone
  Star State over the course of his exceptional career, and he is
  indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, hereby congratulate David Alan Smoak on his
  induction into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for David Smoak as an expression of high regard from the
  Texas Senate.
