SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of George Sampson Nalle III, a |
|
distinguished Texas veteran, businessman, and preservationist, |
|
who died on January 9, 2025, at the age of 79; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on September 13, 1945, in Baltimore, George |
|
Nalle was raised in West Lake Hills near Austin; he graduated |
|
from Saint Stephen's Episcopal School in 1963 and went on to earn |
|
a bachelor's degree in business administration from The |
|
University of Texas at Austin, where he participated in the |
|
Reserve Officers' Training Corps; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. Nalle began |
|
serving in the United States Army, and he completed officer |
|
training at Fort Devens in Massachusetts before being stationed |
|
at Torii Station in Okinawa, Japan; while he worked in military |
|
intelligence supporting United States efforts during the Vietnam |
|
War, he and his wife, Carole, embraced the culture and history of |
|
Japan and formed many memories and personal interests that |
|
remained lasting influences in both of their lives; and |
|
WHEREAS, After concluding his military service having |
|
earned the rank of first lieutenant, Mr. Nalle joined the family |
|
business, Nalle Plastics; he later transitioned to a successful |
|
career in commercial real estate, and he was instrumental in |
|
developing the Treemont neighborhood in Austin; he took |
|
particular pride in the creation of Heritage Square, a group of |
|
eight historic homes from throughout the state that he relocated |
|
and restored to serve as office spaces and for which he and Carole |
|
received a Preservation Austin Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, An accomplished history enthusiast, Mr. Nalle |
|
had a special interest in Japanese art and was recognized |
|
throughout the state as an expert on swords and samurai culture; |
|
his dedication to historical preservation was also reflected in |
|
his service on the boards of the Heritage Society of Austin, the |
|
Austin History Center, and the Knights of the Symphony; and |
|
WHEREAS, A longtime member of the Rotary Club of Austin, |
|
Mr. Nalle especially valued his service on the scholarship |
|
committee working with and awarding grants to promising young |
|
students; he was a member of Saint David's Episcopal Church and |
|
enjoyed the time he spent serving as an usher during Sunday |
|
services; and |
|
WHEREAS, George was a devoted husband to his cherished |
|
wife of 56 years, the late Carole Gasaway Nalle, and he was a |
|
loving father to their children, Brian Nalle and Karey Oddo; his |
|
four grandchildren enriched his life immeasurably, and he leaves |
|
behind countless memories that will be forever treasured by his |
|
many loved ones and friends and by all who were privileged to |
|
share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of George Sampson Nalle III; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of George Nalle. |
