R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on |
|
|
April 11, 2025, with the passing of Gene Welch of Wake Village at |
|
|
the age of 90; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Gene Welch was born to Clyde and Dorothy Welch on |
|
|
October 19, 1934, in Rolla, Missouri, and grew up sharing in the |
|
|
companionship of his two sisters, Patricia and Sharon; at the age of |
|
|
14, he embarked on a successful career as a truck driver, and he |
|
|
continued to work in the industry until his passing; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Welch |
|
|
served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War; after returning |
|
|
to civilian life, he maintained his connection with the military as |
|
|
president of the Korean War Veterans Association and as a member of |
|
|
the VFW and the American Legion; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Valuing family above all else, Mr. Welch shared a |
|
|
rewarding marriage with his wife, Martha, that spanned 67 years, |
|
|
and he took great pride in their children, Mitch, Don, and Kimberly; |
|
|
through the years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
|
|
include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; in his |
|
|
leisure hours, he enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas |
|
|
Rangers and taking part in outdoor activities such as hunting, |
|
|
fishing, and camping; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
|
|
country, Gene Welch earned the lasting respect and admiration of |
|
|
all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature |
|
|
hereby pay tribute to the life of Gene Welch and extend sincere |
|
|
condolences to his relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
|
day, it do so in memory of Gene Welch. |
