Dorothy Keasler |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew |
|
|
to a close with the passing of Dorothy Jean Thornton Keasler of |
|
|
Hallsville on April 23, 2025, at the age of 96; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The former Dorothy Thornton was born on |
|
|
November 3, 1928, to Robert and Addie Thornton, and she grew up |
|
|
with the companionship of two siblings, Wayne and Merle; after |
|
|
attending Indian Rock High School, she went on to earn a degree in |
|
|
education from East Texas Baptist College; she enjoyed a |
|
|
rewarding career as an English teacher with the Hallsville |
|
|
Independent School District, and she also taught Sunday school |
|
|
and was a devoted congregant of First Baptist Church in |
|
|
Hallsville; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On November 19, 1944, she married Sydney J. |
|
|
Keasler II, with whom she shared a fulfilling union that |
|
|
spanned 63 years until his passing; the couple were blessed |
|
|
with three children, Judy, Karen, and Syd, and over the years, |
|
|
their family grew to include numerous grandchildren and |
|
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to spending time with her loved ones, |
|
|
Mrs. Keasler delighted in travel, taking memorable trips to |
|
|
Cuba, the Holy Land, Hawaii, and Alaska; she was also dedicated |
|
|
to her faith community and shared her personal testimony with |
|
|
groups in Texas and Louisiana for many years; moreover, she |
|
|
served as chair of the Christian Women's Club in Longview and was |
|
|
a member of the Chancellor Club at LeTourneau University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Although Dorothy Keasler is deeply missed, |
|
|
memories of her abiding faith, her infectious laughter, and her |
|
|
witty sense of humor remain to comfort and inspire those she |
|
|
leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dorothy Jean |
|
|
Thornton Keasler and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her |
|
|
family: to her children, Judy Wheatley, Karen Adams and her |
|
|
husband, Bob, and Syd Keasler and his wife, Kathy; to her sister, |
|
|
Merle Cross; to her grandchildren, Tommy Wheatley, Dennis Dillard, |
|
|
Kimberly Adams, Kyle Adams, Misty Keasler, and David Keasler and |
|
|
his wife, Sarah; to her great-grandchildren, Madeline and Molly |
|
|
Moore, Anna and Isaac Adams, Colin and Cameron Dillard, Sydney, |
|
|
Scarlett, and Jasper Gibb, and Theo, Norah, and Zoe Keasler; and to |
|
|
her other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy Keasler. |
