Betty Muns |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
|
|
memories of Dr. Betty Bell Muns, an esteemed member of the Plano |
|
|
community and a friend to many, who passed away on April 30, 2024, |
|
|
at the age of 92; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The former Betty Bell was born in Dallas on |
|
|
December 24, 1931, to Robert and Katherine Bell; she attended |
|
|
Highland Park High School and went on to receive a bachelor's |
|
|
degree in psychology and education from Abilene Christian |
|
|
University, a master's degree in psychology and education from |
|
|
North Texas State University, and a doctorate in psychology with |
|
|
a focus on marriage and family counseling from Texas Woman's |
|
|
University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She married the love of her life, James Muns, on |
|
|
June 17, 1952, and the couple shared a fulfilling marriage that |
|
|
spanned more than seven decades; she was a devoted mother to |
|
|
their 4 children, Katharine, Marla, Greg, and John, and over the |
|
|
years, she welcomed into their family 12 grandchildren and 30 |
|
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Muns moved to Plano in the early 1970s, and in |
|
|
1978, she established a local private practice specializing in |
|
|
marriage and family therapy; active in her community, she chaired |
|
|
the boards for the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, the |
|
|
Plano Symphony Orchestra, Children's Medical Center Plano, and |
|
|
the Collin County Women's Shelter; she was also a longtime member |
|
|
of the Abilene Christian University Alumni Chorus, and she was |
|
|
the director of Bell Trust; in recognition of her outstanding |
|
|
contributions, she was named the 1995 Plano Citizen of the Year, |
|
|
and she received the Leadership Plano Distinguished Leadership |
|
|
Award in 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Betty Muns possessed a generosity of spirit that |
|
|
expressed itself in myriad ways, and she enriched the lives of |
|
|
countless people with her warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Betty Bell Muns |
|
|
and extend heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of Betty Muns. |
