R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana achieved
  great distinction by winning multiple awards at the Spring National
  High School Journalism Convention, held in Seattle, Washington, on
  April 24 to 26, 2025; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Journalism Education Association
  and National Scholastic Press Association, the event is the largest
  gathering of high school journalists and journalism advisors and
  teachers in the country; the convention features instructional
  sessions, news-making keynote speakers, media critiques, on-site
  media contests, and the announcement of national award winners; and
         WHEREAS, The staff of the Pleasant Grove High School
  newspaper, The Edge, garnered for the sixth consecutive year the
  prestigious Pacemaker Award and the Golden Crown Award; they were
  also recognized at the UIL Interscholastic League Press Conference
  with a Gold Star award; the school's yearbook, The Hawk, took home
  Best of Show honors at the JEA/NSPA national convention and a Gold
  Star award at the ILPC; and
         WHEREAS, Pleasant Grove High School publications benefit
  from the leadership of longtime advisor Charla Harris, who received
  the 2025 Linda S. Puntney Teacher Inspiration Award for her
  extensive contributions as a journalism teacher; the newspaper
  staff includes coeditors Rawya Hazin and Brooklyn Tirone, and the
  PGHS yearbook is coedited by Julianne Naples and Ellis Miller; and
         WHEREAS, Through their hard work and commitment to
  excellence, these talented young Texans have brought great pride to
  their school and community, and they are indeed deserving of
  special recognition for their accomplishments; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
  hereby congratulate Pleasant Grove High School on its success at
  the Spring 2025 JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention
  and extend to all those associated with the school's publications
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas Senate.
