LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 89TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 11, 2025

TO:
Honorable Stan Lambert, Chair, House Committee on Pensions, Investments & Financial Services

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB245 by Wilson (Relating to the treatment of military service credit in the Employees Retirement System of Texas as law enforcement or custodial officer service.), As Introduced

The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined due to the lack of data regarding how many members would be affected and how much additional military service would be purchased as a result of the provisions of the bill.

The bill would amend the Government Code to allow certain military service to be creditable as law enforcement or custodial officer service for the Law Enforcement and Custodial Officer Supplemental Retirement Program (LECOS).  The fiscal impact of the bill cannot be determined because it is unknown how many members of LECOS would be affected and how much military service would be purchased under the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
