LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 89TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 15, 2025

TO:
Honorable Gary VanDeaver, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB488 by Johnson (Relating to Medicaid coverage and reimbursement for functional family therapy services.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to provide Medicaid reimbursement for functional family therapy services for eligible recipients.

According to HHSC, increased client services costs due to the implementation of the bill would be partially offset by cost savings related to reduced utilization of other services. This analysis assumes that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
