LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 89TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 7, 2025

TO:
Honorable Angie Chen Button, Chair, House Committee on Trade, Workforce & Economic Development

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1691 by Bumgarner (Relating to claims for benefits or compensation for certain cancer brought by firefighters or emergency medical technicians.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

It is assumed that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

This bill would add certain additional cancers to the list of cancers that would be presumed to have developed during employment as a firefighter or emergency medical technician. Units of local government could see an increase in claims for benefits or compensation. The number of increased claims and the cost of additional benefits and compensation is unknown, so the fiscal impact cannot be determined.
